Principal characteristics
By Langemarck and a fiew [me]
[This page is a point of view of one mapper/player, not to be bound to be surely of all mappers & players. But I think it is very well to start playing, over time you make your own experience.]
Advantages:
-Very fast
Midle advantages:
-Medium panzer
-Medium firepower
-Medium accuracy
Disadvantage:
-Turn easy, (but they can retreat fast)
-A majority to long range tanks with fix turret
Notes:
-Heavy USSR tanks can't
be hurt by 76.2mm anti tanks guns, however the enemy at can do severe
damage when you retreat your tanks form te battlefield.
[-Off course, your general strategy depends too on what the maper gives you as units . Tipycal example is for German nation : If you have more mobile fast tanks -Panther, PZ III/IV- and less of slow fix turret tankhunter -JP, Nashorn, JgPz, Stug...- you must maybe choice a attack strategy, and if it's the opposite, maybe choose a defence strategy. And +/- same thing for other nations.]
Light T-series tanks: Very weak armour but good speed [except T-26, low speed in RWM, rather designed as a "infantery" tanks] usefull to assault infantry or
trucks or 88mm flaks when the enemy isn't prepared.
[T-28 & T-35 tanks: slow = "infantery" tanks = old USSR tanks designed for to be used with infantery]
T34: Most used russian
tanks, again they have great speed and are very good to rush and retreat. It
does not have good armour so you should use them with caution. The 76mm model is +/- equivalent to the Sherman & the 85mm model
has medium firepower (+/- the same that 76 mm of Panther), they can't do alot of damage alone but when used in group
they can be deadly for any german tank. Therefor try to save up your T34's
and use them in a group. When you assault you have to watch out for the german
paks, neutralise them first and try to avoid close
combat situations with pz tanks.
KV: Slow russian tank
with quite good armour but low firepower and midle range, they can be best used
against pzIV. The KV-2 howitzer however is an good weapon with very good
firepower and range(152.4mm) which makes good to assault heavy german tanks
(but not with super heavy) or 88mm flak/pak43, but very slow.
SU-series: Russian tank
hunters with medium-low armour. the su75 is only usefull against pzVI or
lower. The su85/su85m can be used against panthers and tiger, the su100/122/152 (AT) are
the perfect weapons to blow them away in 1 hit, they have very high firepower,
good range and fast which makes them one of the most feared
weapons for the germans. They are good to kill any german heavy tank but
they have weak armour so try to
suprise you enemy and retreat on time. SU-100/152 is a AT long range. Note: Exist a SU-122 howit.
ISU-series: Big and slow
tankhunters with amazing firepower but weak armour. They are very usefull
against jagdpanther and tiger 1&2 they can do severe damage even frontal.
They are easy targets for panthers nashorns so try to lure the enemy tank and
seperate it from it's
group. ISU-122 is a AT long range.
IS1&2 (JS1&2):
Heavy
russian tank with good armour and medium speed. the IS1 has good armour and
medium to good firepower, +/- like the Tiger 1 tank its size makes it slow and a
good target for tankhunters.
[But the Tiger1 not = JS1 (Same the moder say that in the RWM editor map. Because JS1 have a fiew less good mobility, a fiew less good life points and range shoot and above all less good side & rear armour than T1. A equitalilty ex: 1 Tiger1 vs 1 JS1 + 1 T34-85 mod43 (good gun but fragile).
Maybe rather It truns easely and has bad range(85mm) so
again it shouldn't be used alone. Unlike the IS1, the JS2 has very good
firepower and range(122mm) which make it the perfect weapon to assault
tiger tanks and Panthers, because of the low speed you should watch out for
nashorns and jagdpanthers.
[MAPPERS INFORMATIONS: For a minimum to WW2 immersion & serious realism. J/IS1 : Preferably dont use this unit too often it in maps, and in litle quantity. Use in ground only 107 ex from 1943 and to abandon].
SU-122 Howitzer, ISU-152 & KV-2: SPG direct shoot. Good vs infantery, guns, houses & litles tanks, but weak vs normal tanks (exept KV2). Weak armour for SU-122 and KV2 very slow.
Lend-Lease UK or US tanks: Sherman, Wolverine (M10), Matilda, Churchill (see UK/US units pages description)
In general: Russian tanks have very good speed and can
suprize your enemy easely, they retreat fast avoiding an enemy counter
attack.
For "equitability" between units of nations, see too "Map editing & balance" section & the 2 important tables RWM units here.
"Equitability" not = total balance, but +/- balancing = possible in nations face to face of win.
Russian
infantry
First: The most important rule when you are fighting is to
create vision so USE OFFICERS at all time, and dont put them
all alone in front.
Always have have back up officers in case your other officers die in a rush
for example. Remove trees and other objects of they are blocking your right and
use spy plane when assaulting hills.
Infantry:
Rifle/Mp: only usefull in close combat (rush) some mp troops have
halfmine bombs, they can be used to blow up tanks, normal mp's have 2 grenades
which can be used on light APC's.
MG troop: can be used to attack the ennemy infantry or at guns, has
very good defence and can shoot mutiple soldiers in short time, always have a
medics near in case he gets hit, weak against tanks APC's and snipers.
Flametrower: exelent to use as paratrooper, can be used in a rush to
burn slow tanks left on the battlefield or bunkers, fir for close combat only so
keep them at the back.
AT riflemen: usefull against very light tanks or light APC's.
Panzerfaust: very usefull against slow or other tanks that are stading
still the 88mm SS panzerfaust can shoot from long distances and can do much
damage, panzerfaust are best used in group in a rush,
but don't send them in front, or hidden in a building.
Snipers: Can be used to neutralise ennemy at guns and officers.
In general: always have infantry around when you attack the enemy, be prepared
for a counter-attack. Most units can lay down just select the units
and press B, this way they will die less easy but they will move slower and have
less vision.
