Principal characteristics
By Langemarck and a fiew [me]
[This page is a point of view of one mapper/player, not to be bound to be surely of all mappers & players. But I think it is very well to start playing, over time you make your own experience.]
Advantages:
-Strong frontal panzerplate
(exept from the nashorn,
marder and pz III)
-Great firepower
-Very accurate
Disadvantage:
-Slow (exept Panther & PZ III/IV)
-Weak at the back and sides
-Majority to long range tanks with fix turret
Note:
-Heavy german tanks can't be hurt by 76.2mm anti
tanks guns( pzIV H/ hetzer and lower aren't), however the enemy field
artillary can do severe damage when you retreat your tanks form te
battlefield.
[-Off course, your general strategy depends too on what the maper gives you as units . Tipycal example is for German nation : If you have more mobile fast tanks -Panther, PZ III/IV- and less of slow fix turret tankhunter -JP, Nashorn, JgPz, Stug...- You must maybe choice a attack strategy, and if it's the opposite, maybe choose a defense strategy. And +/- same thing for other nations.]
PzIII, IV and Stug III: Light german tanks with bad armour and low speed, however they have
considerable firepower and are very usefull when
used in group. Pz-serie Very usefull against T34 and Stug-serie against 76, 85 & 100mm guns. Stug III is very good too vs infantery, guns & houses, same the SPG.
Panther: This is one of the fastest german tanks and has an 75mm gun (but +/- the same range that a T34-85 mm) it is very usefull to destroy ennemy spg's
although they are not very accuarate they can do severe damage to the
ennemy when you use serveal panthers together. The panther has a good medium armour and therefor it's best to use them together with other
lighter german tanks when you are fighting T34 or firefly's.
Tiger 1: A very
slow, well armoured tank with 88mm gun, a very good tank for
defending considering his firepower and quite good accuracy. The tiger
is very weak against spg's such as su100/ISU or jackson's or t34 who can move
fast. They turn easely
when you retreat with them fast.Best is to use them at the back of your army and
take advantage of their firepower.
Nashhorn and JagdPanzer
IV: (AT) Both tanks have medium speed, the
nashorn has extremely weak armour but awesome firepower (88mm L/71)
and great accuarcy. The jd.pz has more armour but like all spg's they
are as good as dead when they can't move anymore. Nashorn can be used against
slow heavy tanks and spg's (su100/isu/js1&2/pershing/...). The jgd.pz is
better used against t34 or su's because of it's 75mm gun and considerable lower
accuaracy.
JagdPanther: (AT) Good medium armour and speed, very accuarate and very good firepower(88mm L/71),
can best used against slow enemy tanks ISU/js or pershings. It's
only weakness is it's seize, it can turn easely and it's also easely destroyed
by su100 because they much faster.
Tiger II (KT/Konig): A very heavy tank but slow reload time and slow turet movement. It's very good firepower(88mm L/71) and armour combined make it the perfect weapon to assuault JS2 or Pershings,
although you must make sure that it's doesn't turn or get's flanked from the
side, again a su100 can suprize it easely. You should also watch out for
flametrowers or a sudden counterattck that will leave your konig alone on the
battlefield where it doesn't stand a chance. Also watch out for ennemy
jagdbombers or ISU who can do considerable damage. They are very
usefull for slow advancing your ennemy together with your defence line.
Elephant (90ex), JagdTiger (85ex): (AT)
Tankhunters with very strong armor plate to face, very good firepower (88mm L/71 and 122mm) and range, but slow reload and very slow movement.[MAPPERS INFORMATIONS: For a minimum to WW2 immersion & serious realism. As other limited production or arrived lat units (ex : JS1, Pershing), dont use too much often this units in maps, and in litle quantity. THX]
S.I.G 33 (38ex), Sturmhautbitze 42, Brummbäer, StrumTiger (18ex):
SPG direct shoot. Good vs infantery, guns, houses & litles tanks, but weak vs normal tanks (exept ST). Very weak armour for SIG and ST very slow. [MAPPERS INFORMATIONS: For a minimum to WW2 immersion & serious realism. As other limited production or arrived lat units (ex : JS1, Pershing), dont use too much often this units in maps, and in litle quantity. THX]
In general: German tanks have good
firepower and armour but slow speed, they are best used in group and are good in
close combat or defending.
For "equitability" between units of nations, see too "Map editing & balance" section & the 2 important tables RWM units here.
"Equitability" not = total balance, but +/- balancing = possible in nations face to face of win.
German
Infantry
First: The most important rule when you are fighting is to
create vision so USE OFFICERS at all time, and dont put them
all alone in front.
Always have have back up officers in case your other officers die in a rush
for example. Remove trees and other objects of they are blocking your right and
use spy plane when assaulting hills.
Infantry
Mauser/Mp: only usefull in close combat (rush) some mp troops have
halfmine bombs, they can be used to blow up tanks, normal mp's have 2 grenades
which can be used on light APC's.
MG42 troop: can be used to attack the ennemy infantry or at guns, has very good defence and can shoot mutiple soldiers in short time, always have a
medics near in case he gets hit, weak against tanks APC's and snipers.
Flametrower: exelent to use as paratrooper, can be used in a rush to
burn slow tanks left on the battlefield or bunkers, fir for close combat only so
keep them at the back.
AT riflemen: usefull against very light tanks or light APC's.
Panzerfaust: very usefull against slow or other tanks that are stading
still the 88mm SS panzerfaust can shoot from long distances and can do much
damage, panzerfaust are best used in group in a rush,
but don't send them in front, or hidden in a building.
Snipers: Can be used to neutralise ennemy at guns and officers.
In general: Always have infantry around when you attack the enemy, be prepared
for a counter-attack. Most units can lay down just select the units
and press B, this way they will die less easy but they will move slower and have
less vision.
